Statistics Flashcards
Normal Distribution
graph with a bell-shaped slope that is symmetrical and doesn’t lean to one side.
Range (stats)
The width of the data set.
Mean / Average
The mean (or average) is calculated by summing all the numbers in a data collection and dividing by their number. μ represents the mean.
Standard Deviation
A number that shows how far each data point is from the mean on average. A bigger standard deviation means that the data are more spread out, or that they vary more. Standard deviation is written with the Greek letter sigma ().
Statistical Question
A question that can be answered by collecting data where there is variability in the data.
Median
The middle value of a sorted dataset.
Statistical Experiment
Trials of an event that has more than one probability-based outcome.
Mode
The most frequent value in a data set
