Q

What are the three strengths for SI?

A

-Relies on statistics so is more objective
-Used in clinical diagnosis’ (e.g scoring lower than 70 on an IQ test leads towards a diagnosis of IDD)
-A diagnosis of depression is partly made through someone being at the bottom 2.5% of population.

Q

What are the three limitations to SI?

A

-some abnormal behaviour is desirable, e.g high intelligence and isn’t classed as abnormal. Contrasting, depression is common + isn’t abnormal here but would want to be treated.
-person making diagnosis needs access to normal distribution, for some behaviours, this isn’t collected.
-difficult knowing when to draw the line of ‘abnormality.’
