statistical infrequency Flashcards
lesson 4
1
Q
what is statistical infrequency
A
under this definition, abnormal behaviour is that which is statistically rare
2
Q
where would abnormality lie in statistical terms
A
on both extremes, like someone can have an IQ of lower than average of 100 or higher than 100
3
Q
what are some limitations of statistical infrequency
A
- it doesn’t count behaviour that is statistically rare but desirable, such as an IQ higher than 100
- some psychological disorders are not rare, such as depression, and it is still a problem
- many rare characteristics have no bearing on abnormality, such as being left handed
