stationary longitudinal waves Flashcards
How is a longitudinal stationary wave formed in a one sided closed tube
- blow air into the tube
- waves are reflected back from the closed end and interfere to create a stationary wave
- Make sure the length of the tube is adjusted so that it creates a wave which has an antinode at the open end and a node at the closed end.
- 3RD STEP MUST BE MET FOR IT TO PRODUCE A STATIONARY LONGTIDUNAL WAVE
SOUND = LONGITUDINAL
air draw the first harmonic, 2nd harmonic, the 3rd harmonic
of a one sided closed tube
for stationary longtidunal wave
done ?
whats the pressure at a displacement node for a stationary longitudinal wave
a displacement node always has an antinode pressure
node = highest pressure
whats the pressure at a displacement anti-node for a stationary longitudinal wave
pressure does not change much
how are stationary waves formed in open tube both ways
sound wave is will also be reflected at the open ends
What type of nodes are at either side of a open tube both ways
and what type of nodes are at a 1 sided closed tube
at a tube with both ends open = anti node and antinode
at a tube with one end closed = anti node and then node
air draw 1st,2nd,3rd harmonics of sound waves which are in open end tubes
1st harmonic has a node at the middle
2nd harmonic has nodes at 2 middles
