Station 4: The Elbow Flashcards
1
Q
The Elbow Joint
Name and Classify the bones of the Elbow Joint
A
Bones:
- Humerus
- Ulna
- Both Long bones
2
Q
Joints at the Elbow
Name and Classify the Joints at the Elbow
What actions occur at these joints
A
- The Elbow Joint
- Humerus to Ulna
- Synovial Hinge Diathrotic Uniaxial
- Actions: Flexion & Extension of forearm - Proximal Radio Ulna Joint
- Radius and Ulna (top)
- Synovial Pivot Diathrotic Uniaxial
- Actions: Rotation of radius around axis to allow for pronation and supernation of wrist
3
Q
Ligaments of the Elbow
Name and Role of Ligaments at the Elbow
Factors of Stability
A
- Annular Ligament
- Wraps around the radius at the Proximal Radioulna joint
- DOES NOT ATTACH TO RADIUS
- Allows for pronation and supernation - Ulna collateral Ligament
- Runs in line with the Ulna
- Allows for flexion and extension of elbow - Radial collateral Ligament
- Runs in line with Radius
- Merges into Annular Ligament
- Allows for flexion and extension of elbow
Factors of Stability in order of importance:
- Bones - Shape of articulating surfaces
- Ligaments
