Static Electricity Flashcards
1
Q
Static Electricity
A
An electric charge that does not move around in a path. It is not the type of electricity that moves through a wire or circuit. However, when built up in an object it may be discharged ( it jumps from one object to another)
2
Q
Law of static electricity
A
- Like charges repel (- - or + +)
- Unlike charges attract (- + or + -)
- Charges objects (- or +) attract neutral objects
3
Q
Conductors
A
Hold electrons loosely, do the electrons/charge moves freely through the material
Ex. Most metals (Al, Au, Ag, Cu)
4
Q
Insulators
A
Holds electrons tightly, so the charge stays in the spot where rubbed
Ex. Most non metals (plastics, rubber, silk, wool, dry wood)
