Flight controls - Check first flight of day

A
  1. Collective — Approximately one inch above midposition, pedals centered.
  2. SAS/BOOST switch — Press off. There will be a slight increase in collective and pedal forces. BOOST SERVO OFF and SAS OFF cautions along with MASTER CAUTION should appear.
  3. SERVO OFF switch — 1ST STG. No allowable cyclic stick jump. PRI SERVO 1 FAIL caution and MASTER CAUTION should appear.
  4. Move cyclic and pedals slowly through full range. There should be no binds or restrictions. Move collective full up to full down in about 1 to 2 seconds. Check PRI SERVO 2 FAIL caution does not appear during movement of collective.
  5. SERVO OFF switch — 2ND STG. No allowable cyclic stick jump. PRI SERVO 2 FAIL caution and MASTER CAUTION should appear.
  6. Repeat Step 4 above. Check PRI SERVO 1 FAIL caution does not appear during movement of collective.
  7. SERVO OFF switch — Normal.
  8. Collective — Move through full range in no less than 5 seconds. There should be no binding.
  9. Pedals — Move both pedals through the full range in no less than 5 seconds. There should be no binding.
  10. TAIL SERVO switch — BACKUP. T/R SERVO 1 FAIL caution, both MASTER CAUTION cautions, and T/R SERVO 2 ON advisory appear. Move pedals through full range in no less than 5 seconds. There should be no binding.
  11. TAIL SERVO switch — NORMAL. Cautions and advisories should disappear.
  12. SAS/BOOST switch — ON. BOOST SERVO OFF and SAS OFF cautions should disappear.

  1. Circuit breakers — In.
  2. Data cartridges — Insert in DTS as required.
    O 6. STORES JETTISON switch — OFF.

    * 10. EGI 1 and EGI 2 switches — ON, RAD ALT — ON.

    O 14. CMWS. CHAFF. DISP control panel ARM SAFE switch — SAFE, AUTO BYPASS switch — AUTO.
  8. AUX FUEL MANAGEMENT XFER switch — OFF, XFR REFUEL switches — CLOSED.
    O 16. Mission equipment — Check and set as required.
  9. MFD power switches — OFF.
    * 18. ANTI COLLISION, POSITION, FORMATION and EXT LTS MODE — As required.
  10. VIB CONT switch — ON.
  11. CARGO HOOK EMER REL switch — OPEN, CONTR ARM switch — SAFE.
  12. STBY INST switch — TEST. BATT GOOD status appears.
  13. STBY INST switch — ARM. ESIS audio tone will activate.
  14. STBY INST switch — OFF. ESIS audio tone will go away.
  15. BATT NO. 1 and BATT NO. 2 — TEST. BATT GOOD status appears.
  16. GENERATORS APU switch — OFF.
    * 26. GENERATORS NO.1 and NO. 2 switches — ON.
  17. EXT PWR switch — OFF, unless ground support unit is needed.
  18. APU CONT switch — OFF.
  19. FUEL PUMP switch — OFF.
    * 30. AIR SCE HT/STRT switch — APU (OFF for external air source).
  20. APU FIRE T-handle — In.
  21. FUEL BOOST PUMP switches — OFF.
  22. ENG EMER OFF T-handles — Full forward.

LAMPS TEST button — Press and check.

A
  1. Cold start console capsules (except BATT GOOD).
  2. Pilot’s and copilot’s reversionary switch panel.
  3. IVHMS event switch.
  4. Pilot’s and copilot’s FD/DCP (switches flash: green amber; labels read LAMPS TEST).
  5. Pilot’s and copilot’s ICS control panel.
  6. AUTO FLIGHT CONTROL panel (STAB/AFCS/COMP RESET).
  7. PARKING BRAKE/ TAIL WHEEL UNLK/LOCK control panel.
  8. Cabin ICS control panels — Check if required.
  9. Release LAMPS TEST button — MASTER CAUTION light appears and steady audio tone is heard for two seconds and goes off; then it comes on a second time as the system checks the DCUs individually. Reset the MASTER CAUTION light after the test is complete.

Load navigation database.

A
  1. On FMS, INI fixed function key — Press.
  2. DTS CTRL soft key — Press.
  3. Acknowledge data, ACK soft key — Press.
  4. Check USER status RDY or CPY.
  5. Check currency of NAV DB.
  6. As required, LOAD NAV DB soft key — Press.
  7. After loading is complete ensure FMS PASS is displayed then RESET FMS — Press. (RESET FMS arrow remains until other FMS is reset)
  8. On other FMS, RESET FMS soft key — Press.
  9. Ensure FMS PASS is displayed.

  3. Check USER status RDY or CPY.

Stabilator — Check.

A
  1. Stabilator position indicator should be between 34° and 42° down.
  2. TEST button — Press and hold. Check stabilator position indicator moves up 5° to 12°. STAB MANUAL MODE caution and MASTER CAUTION appear. The stabilator audio is heard in three cycles of about three beeps followed by a pause as the system checks the FCCs individually. Check for Vne indication to appear.
  3. AUTO CONTROL RESET switch — Press ON. Note that the STAB MANUAL MODE caution disappears and audio is off, and stabilator position indicator moves to 34° to 42° down.
  4. Either cyclic mounted stabilator slew-up switch — Pull and hold until stabilator position indicator moves approximately 15° trailing edge up, release, stabilator should stop. MASTER CAUTION lights on and STAB MANUAL MODE caution appears and beeping audible warning in pilot’s, copilot’s and crewchief’s headsets. MASTER CAUTION — Press to reset audio tone.
  5. Other cyclic mounted stabilator slew-up switch — Pull and hold until stabilator position indicator moves approximately 15° trailing edge up, release, stabilator should stop.
  6. MAN SLEW switch — UP and hold until stabilator stops. Stabilator position indicator should be 6° to 10° up.
  7. MAN SLEW switch — DOWN and hold until stabilator position indicator reads 0°.
  8. AUTO CONTROL RESET switch — Press ON. Stabilator position indicator should move 34° to 42° down. STAB MANUAL MODE caution disappears.

FMS initialization — Check as required.

A
  1. FMS INI key — Press.
  2. On the INITIALIZATION 1/3 page, verify present position, date and time. Ensure WGS-84 is displayed.
  3. Press NXT to page down to the INITIALIZATION 2/3 page. Verify EGI alignment. Set LAND/ SEA as required.
  4. Select INIT with SK-2 and SK-7 for both EGIs if required. Note the EGI alignment status and timer.

a. OFF — 1553 communication is not active.

b. STANDBY — In standby.

c. ORIENT — Determining north orientation.

d. ATT — Determining helicopter attitude. Attitude indicator appears after approximately 20 seconds.

e. ALIGN — Aligning.

f. D-NAV READY — HSI compass appears after approximately two minutes, degraded navigation available.

g. NAV RDY — Alignment complete and in Nav Ready mode.

h. NAV — Navigate.

  1. Press NXT to page down to INITIALIZATION 3/3. Verify A/C GWT, DRAG, TAIL NO., ETF 1/2 and PERF VARIABLES.

  1. If any of these indications occur during start sequence, abort the start.

a. No TGT increase (light off) within 45 seconds.

b. No P (engine oil pressure) within 45 seconds.

c. No NP1 or NP2 within 45 seconds (if rotor brake is off).

d. ENG STARTER ON caution disappears before reaching 52% NG.

e. TGT reaches 851°C before idle is attained (above 63% NG).

  1. Starter button(s) — Press until NG increases; release.
  2. TGT — Check below 30°C before advancing ENG POWER CONT lever(s).
  3. ENG POWER CONT lever(s) — IDLE. Start clock.
  4. System indications — Check.
  5. ENG STARTER ON caution(s). Check disappears above 52% NG. If ENG STARTER ON caution remains after reaching idle:

a. ENG POWER CONT lever — Pull out.

b. If caution remains: APU CONT — OFF or engine air source remove as required.

Hydraulic leak test system — Check.

A
  1. HYD LEAK TEST switch — TEST. T/R SERVO 1 FAIL, BOOST SERVO OFF, SAS OFF, RSVR 1 LOW, RSVR 2 LOW, and BACK UP RSVR LOW cautions, T/R SERVO 2 ON and BACK UP PUMP ON advisories, and MASTER CAUTION appear. During this check, it is normal for the collective and pedals to move slightly.
  2. HYD LEAK TEST switch — RESET. The cautions and advisories in Step 1 should disappear.

Tail rotor servo transfer — Check.

A
  1. BACKUP HYD PUMP switch — AUTO with backup pump not running.
  2. TAIL SERVO switch — BACKUP. T/R SERVO 1 FAIL caution, T/R SERVO 2 ON and BACK UP PUMP ON advisories, and MASTER CAUTION appear within 3 to 5 seconds.
  3. TAIL SERVO switch — NORMAL. T/R SERVO 1 FAIL caution, T/R SERVO 2 ON advisory, and MASTER CAUTION disappear. BACK UP PUMP ON advisory disappears after approximately 90 seconds.

Engine(s) — Start.

A

• During rotor brake operations there will be no NP or Q indications until rotor brake is released.
• MAIN XMSN PRESS caution remains and there is no pressure indication until rotor brake is released.
• All corresponding No. 1 and No. 2 hydraulic cautions remain until the rotor brake is released.
• FUEL PRESS LOW caution may appear during the start process and should disappear before the engine stabilizes at ground idle.
• The FUEL BOOST PUMP CONTROL switches shall not be used to extinguish the FUEL 1 PRESS LOW or FUEL 2 PRESS LOW caution during an engine start sequence.

Systems Check

A

a. NG — 63% or greater and both engines are within 3% of each other.

b. NP1 or NP2 — Check not in the range of 20% to 40% and 60% to 90%. Advance ENG POWER CONT lever(s) as required.

c. XMSN P — Check.

d. P (engine oil pressure) — Check.

e. HYD PUMP 1 FAIL and HYD PUMP 2 FAIL cautions — Check off.
