Why did a Cold war gradually start after Hitler was defeated?
Tensions and rivalries grew between the superpowers
Why did Churchill have to stand ‘firm’ with negotiations with Western superpowers?
Churchill believed strongly in the British empire and Stalin was suspicious of his attitudes, believing the West wanted to destroy communism.
Why was Roosevelt less harsh than Churchill towarda Soviet Union?
Desired support from Soviet Union despite the fact he wanted democracy.
Why did tensions rise dramatically after WW2?
All the ideologies and relations of the superpowers were different in some way, meaning there would be many difficulties governing post-war Europe.
What were consequences of the start of the cold war?
Stalin’s suspicions were a major role beginning tensions. Difference in ideologies broke down relations. Ideological differences would make post-war Europe impossible to govern together.

What things do we learn from the start of the cold War?
. The three superpowers were split into two ideologies.
. Roosevelt was more willing to work with Stalin so would work well with him
. Stalin’s suspicions of West stopped them working well
. Churchill wanted to stop Soviet expansion so was a threat to Stalin.
. Working out after the war wasn’t an option so a cold war was on the way.
