Starling Forces Flashcards
FLuid exchange between plasma and interstitium
Occurs across walls of systemic capillaries
Bidriectional
Determiend by Starling forces
Formula and each of variables
Jv=Kf((Pc-Pi)-(Pic-Pii))
Kf - filtration coefficient…determined by hydraulic permeability and capillary SA
Pc - capillary HS pressure
Pi - intersttial HS pressuve
Pic- capillary oncotic pressure
Pii - interstitial oncotic pressure
Venous vs. arterial end
At venous end, all the same except the capillary hydrostatic pressure less
At arterial end, favros production INTO the interstitium (positive) while at venous end favors production into the capillary
Localized edema effects
Venous obstruction - increased Pc
Inflammation - increased Pc and Kf
Lymphatic obstruction - increased Pii (prevents protein return to systmeic circulation)
Generalized edema
Na retention and expansion of the entrie ECF
