Gross Anatomy Review - Urinary System Embryology Flashcards
Urogenital ridge
From itnermediate mesorderm
Medial part - gonads
Lateral - nephrogenic cord to urinary system
Pronephros system
Differetiate into vestigal excretory units
Disappears
Mesoneprhos system
Renal corpuscle
Mesonephric duct - final common pathway forr renal corpuscles to the cloaca…in male connects tetis to cloaca
PErment kidneys develop from
Ureteric bud - collecting system
Metanephric blastema - exceretory system
Ascent of the kidneys
As embryo grows, they ascend and rotate so hilum is medial facing
Ectopic kidney
Horseshoe kidney
Ectopic - one or both in abnormal position…most in pelvis
Horshoe - fusion of inferior poles…ascent is not possible because gets caught on mesenteric artery
Renal agenesis
Unilateral - asympotatmic and remaining kidney hypertrophies
Bilateral - leads to oligohydramnios…leas to compression of fetus leading to Potter’s syndrome
Bifid ureter anomaly
Ureteric bud divides before it enters the metanephric blastema…only one opening of ureter into the bladder
Ectopic ureter
Mesoneprhic duct sporouts 2 buds that reach blastema
Cranial ureter may open into an ectopic location
Exstrophy of the bladder
Epispadias
Ventral defect in which bladder exposed
Defect in dorsum of the penis…opening of urethra is found on the drosal surface of the penis
Hypospadias
Ventral wall defect of penis
Failure of urethral folds to fuse along midline
