Gross Anatomy Review - Urinary System Flashcards
Kidney location
What surrounded by
Relative to adrenal glands
Retroperitoneal
Surrounded by perirenal fat which is enclosed by renal fascia…pararenal fat surrounds the renal fascia
Right is slightly inferior and MORE susceptible to injury because less protected
Adrneal glands are superior
Cortex Medulla Papillae Minor and major calyes Pelvis SInus
Cortex - outer part with glomeruli for blood filtration…extend into medulla as renal columns
Medulla - inner portion containing pyramids that contain tubules for water resorption
Papillae - apex of renal pyramids and extend into minor calyx
Minor clayx - revieve fluid from single papilla
Renal pelvis - from multiple major calycis…continues as urteres
Sinus - central cavity containing minor, major calyces, renal pelvis fat and lymphatics
Blood uspply
Each segmental artery divides into interlobar arteries that ascend in columns to CM junction…they branch into arcuate arteies that run parallel to interface…interlobular provide the affarent arterioles to each glomerulus
Ureters - where to look for stones
Narrowing of pelvis
Where ureter corsses common iliac arteyr bifurcation
Where it enter bladder
Female and amles ureter diff
Female - corssed uspriorly by the uterine artery
Male - by ductus deferences
Control of bladder
Majority of muscle in urinary bladder is detrusor innervated by PS fibers (S2-S4)
Internal urethral sphincter - sympathetic fibers
PS fibers elicit contration of detrusor AND inhibit the internal urethral sphincter
