Starch, Glycogen And Cellulose Flashcards
Where is starch found
Starch is found in many parts of a plant in the form of small grains.
What monosaccharide is starch made of?
Chains of alpha glucose
How is starch suited for its role
. when hydrolysed it forms alpha glucose. which is both easily transported and readily used in respiration
. it is compact. so a lot of it can be stored in a small space
. being large and insoluble, it does not difluse out of cells
. The branched form has many ends which can be acted on by enzymes simultaneously
What is the main role of starch
The main role of starch is energy storage.
Instead of starch , what similar polysaccharide is found in animals
Glycogen
Where is glycogen found
Animals and bacteria
What monosaccharide is cellulose made from
Beta glucose
What’s the difference between glycogen and cellulose
Cellulose has beta glucose, glycogen has alpha glucose
What is Amylose
A polymers of alpha glucose
Which bond joins 2glucose monosaccharides together
1,4 glycosidic bond
