What is the ITM and what’s its purpose
ITM is a united states agency that specialises in standardising information communication technology. Comprises 193 countries
Purpose
They standardise these technologies so we can have a global telecommunication systems eg mobile phone in Canada can call landline in wales
Allocating radio spectrum and satellite orbits
Developing standards for telecoms and networks
Improving interconnectivity between countries across the world
What is the WWWC and what’s it purpose
World Wide Web Consortium
Founded by Tim Burners lee who created the WWW
Purpose
Developed standards to ensure the growth of the web
Promotes compatibility of HTML by different browsers
Standard sets include
CGI
CSS
HTML
XML
What is the difference between internet and intranet
Internet
Global network available to public/everyone
Access to all public webpages and services
Intranet
A private network only for authorised users e.g. staff, students
Log in
Accessed on LAN or over internet
Access company resources e.g.
.Shared Resources . Information System
.Work email . News/announcements
What are the benefits of an intranet
Authorised users can access systems from home via internet
Easy access to news, email, work systems etc
… All on home page
Intranets use existing internet technologies
