It refers to the extent of wealth and comfort a person, household or community live in.
What factors influence a person’s standard of living?
- Income
- Employment

What is lifestyles?
A person’s lifestyle refers to a person’s way of living and reflects what a person regards as important. People who belong to the same culture or society usually have the similar lifestyles.
What is a society?
Group of people with the same interests, culture or religion. Each society consists of people from different economical backgrounds.
Types of societies:
- Self-sufficient society - can provide for itself
- Modern society - Urbanised societies with sophisticated social and commercial infrastructure.
- Rural society - Agrarian societies where people live in rural areas.
List the impact of development on the environment:
- Development can be harmful to the natural environment.
- The natural environment is made up of complicated eco-systems that can be harmed by development.
- Environmental studies must be carried out before building or development commence.
- Some areas are protected by environmental laws.
What is the definition of unemployment?
A person is unemployed if he is looking for employment, but cannot find employment.
What is the reason for unemployed people?
- Lack of skills or qualifications
- Retrenchment due to poor economic conditions
- Lack of job opportunities.
Name the different kinds of unemployment:
- Cyclical unemployment - jobs are lost due to poor economic conditions.
- Structural unemployment - jobs are lost due to the improvement of processes
- Frictional unemployment - when a person resigned from one job and has not yet found another job
