Standard error of the Mean Flashcards
1
Q
Means
A
- calculated mean from a sample will not be the same as the true mean from the whole population
- this is random error and occurs by chance
2
Q
Error
A
-error of not having the true population mean is represented by the standard error of the mean taken from that population
3
Q
Standard deviation
A
-dispersion of sample mean value around a range of observed values within a sample
4
Q
Standard error of the mean
A
-refers to the dispersion of population mean value around a range of various mean values obtained from repeated sampling of the population
5
Q
Standard error
A
-the standard deviation of the distribution of the means
-this enables us to calculate confidence intervals
SE= standard deviation of the sample mean/ square root of the sample size
