Stakeholder Analysis & Management - Ch 6 Flashcards
What is one of the main reasons business analysis projects do not succeed - or do not succeed fully?
Poor stakeholder management.
When should stakeholder management take place in a business analysis project?
Before it begins, during inception and initiation, and revised throughout the project and after the project has completed.
Who is primarily responsible for stakeholder management within the project?
The Project Manager.
What is a definition of project stakeholders?
Anyone who has in interest in, or may be affected by, the issue under consideration.
What are the generic stakeholder categories?
- Owners
- Managers
- Employees
- Customers
- Competitors
- Partners
- Suppliers
- Regulators
Give me an example of an additional stakeholder, other than the generic ones.
- Insurers - if it affects the pattern or risk covered
- Police - law and order implications of actions
What method would you use to analyse stakeholders?
Power/Interest Grid
What is a Power/Interest Grid?
A method of plotting where stakeholders are, in relation to their power to impact the project and their interest in the project. This can then be used to manage stakeholders.
- **No Power **and No Interest
- Ignore day to day, monitor and inform occassionally.
-
No Power and **Some/High Interest **
- Keep informed
- Frequent, positive communication
- Keep informed
-
Some Power and No/Some/High Interest
- Keep onside
- otherwise passive resistance likely
- keep informed, especially reasons
- Keep onside
-
High Power and No Interest
- Watch
-
High Power and Some Interest
- Keep Satisfied
-
High Power and High Interest
- Constant, Active Management
- Check positive/negative
- Appreciate concerns & opinions
- Keep informed at all stages
- Constant, Active Management
How would you manage a Key Stakeholder who was negative towards the project?
- Find some personal benefits for them in the proposed course of action. If this is not possible then find a more powerful counter-force, maybe by engaging the interest of someone in one fo the high-power areas of the grid.
What classification can you give to stakeholders?
- Champion - actively works for project success
- Supporter - in favour but not very active
- Neutral - no opinion
- Critic - not in favour but not actively opposed
- Opponent - works actively to disrupt, impede or derail the project
- Blocker - obstructs projects
How would you define stakeholder involvement?
By using a RASCI chart.
What is a RASCI chart?
A way of definining stakeholder involvement for project areas, such as business case, PID, requirements catalogue, by whether the stakeholder is:
- Responsible (does activity)
- Accountable (carries the can)
- Consulted (provides information)
- Supportive (provides assistance and/or resources)
- Informed (kept informed)
