Staining Flashcards
yellow stain is?
most common extrinsic
film of discoloured plaque
poor oh
what is tobacco stain?
second most common extrinsic stain black/yellow usually embedded in plaque/calculus most common at cervical margins or depressions in enamel may become exogenous
what is green stain?
seen in childrens teeth at site of primary cuticle of maxillary incisors chromogenic bacteria and fungi associated with poor oh often underlying decalcification may become exogenous can only be removed by polishing
what is the composition of green stain?
chromogenic bacteria
fungi
decomposed haemaglobin
inorganic elements - calcium/potassium/sodium/magnesium
what is black line stain?
metabolic stain/black stain/mesenteric stain/brown stain
- good OH
usually follows contour of gingival margin on lingual surfaces approx. 1mm above g margin
chromogenic bacteria and inorganic salts
related to individual body chemistry
hard to remove
what are red and orange stains?
rare
chromogenic bacteria
most common in anterior teeth
what kind of stain can a damage to pulp tissue give?
haemorrhage in pulp/chamber and decomposition of tissue
pigments and decomposing material enters tubules
wide range of colours
not all pulpless teeth discolour
may be bleached internally
what is hereditary amelogenesis imperfect?
rare
lack of enamel formation
yellowish/brown in colour
disturbance of ameloblasts leading to missing or incomplete enamel
what is hereditary dentinogenesis imperfect?
odontoblast disturbance
translucent, grey/blue/brown in colour
