Oral Films Flashcards
what is primary cuticle?
remnants of tooth development
membrane remains left on tooth near the gingival margin
usually worn away by natural friction
can persist in some people and may become stained
what is material alba?
found in mouths where oh in particularly poor
residue floats on surface of teeth
blown away by air syringe
what is the acquired salivary pellicle?
thin layer forms on teeth in seconds of cleaning smooth colourless translucent initially bacteria free derived from salivary glycoproteins
in what 3 ways is the salivary pellicle protective?
1 glycolproteins and calcium phosphate from saliva are adsorbed to tooth surface = most resistant to tooth wear
2 restricts the diffusion of acid from sugar breakdown in the mouth
3 contains antibacterial factors
what antibacterial factors are in the salivary pellicle?
antibodies IgG, IgA, IgM
complement
lysozyme
