Q

What is YIN EDEMA?

A

Deficient edema w/ deficient signs usually caused by xu of healthy qi after long illness or improper TX of YANG EDEMA.

THIS IS MORE SERIOUS THAN YANG EDEMA

Q

What are the differences between YIN & YANG EDEMA?

A
YANG:
Acute
WInd PF
Upper body
Superficial pulse or deep strong
EXCESS nature
YIN:
Slow onset
Long illness/disease
lower body
deep, slow, weak pulse
DEFICIENCY nature

Q

What is PHLEGM-FLUID RETENTION? (turbidity)

A

Phlegm is dense & fluid (turbidity) is thin.
Both are pathological products of body fluids.

Phlegm that is retained over a long period of time can be it’s own cause of disease.

The main organ involved in dysfunction is SPLEEN.

17
Q

What are the two types of PHLEGM?

A

VISIBLE (substantial)

INVISIBLE (unsubstantial)

18
Q

What is VISIBLE PHLEGM?

A

Has “form” & can be seen as sputum or vomiting of phlegm, nodules, or rattling in throat

19
Q

What is INVISIBLE PHLEGM?

A

Is retained subcutaneously or in the channels, obstructs the orifices, goes to the joints, or to the KI as “stones”

Can cause insomnia, mania, dizziness, obstructed feeling in the throat

But NO VISIBLE PHLEGM

20
Q

What causes PHLEGM?

A

Weakness of SP/ST
Prolonged illness
Heat (fire due to emotions)

21
Q

What happens in the blood & various body parts, channels, & organ systems?

A

LUNGS: cough, rattle in throat, chest (visible phlegm)

STOMACH: masses, no appetite, nausea

HEART: (misting the heart orifice), coma, mania

MERIDIANS: (blood is blocked) numbness, bleeding, esp in limbs

LIMBS/BREAST- subcutaneous nodules

THROAT (invisible) feeling of obstruction

YANG ASCENSION- (blocks yang)- dizziness

22
Q

What are the TYPES OF PHLEGM?

A

DAMP-PHLEGM (profuse & easy to expectorate, chest fullness, no thirst- just LU)

HEAT-PHLEGM- (sticky, yellow, w/ chest fullness, nausea & heat signs- LU/ST/HT)

COLD-PHLEGM- (white watery phlegm, chest fullness, cold limbs, nausea- ST/LU)

WIND-PHLEGM- (dizziness, nausea, vomit, rattle in throat, aphasia, deviated tongue, wiry pulse, Wind-Stroke)

QI-PHLEGM- (invisible phlegm- obstructive feeling in throat form stag of Qi- LR)

PHLEGM FLUIDS..(turbidity)

23
Q

What are FLUID RETENTION PATTERNS?

A

There are six areas that turbid (cold) fluid can be retained:

Called TURBIDITY in the…
STOMACH= mid jiao Yang injury (food, drink, strain, over thinking)

INTESTINES=(cold-fluid) (same as ST)

LUNGS= (cold-fluid) usually Yang Xu of SP & KI & exposure to cold

CHEST (in general)= also (cold-fluid) mroe serious than just LU- Yang Xu failing to transform & transport fluids

HYPOCHONDRIA area= also cold-fluid (same as chest)

HEART (LU affects HT w/ palpitations & puffiness)
