Stages Of Mistosis Flashcards
Describe the overall process of Interphase
Cell is enlarged
organelles are duplicated
DNA is stored in nucleus
Prophase
-Centrosomes form, consisting of two identical sister chromotids, joint at centromere
-Chromosomes move to opposite poles of cell
-Nuclear envelope broken down
-Centromere forms spinal fibres
Metaphase
-Spindle fibres connect to centromeres
-spinal fibres shorten, chromosomes are lined up on equator of cell
Anaphase
-Spinal fibres contract more so chromotids are separated from centromere
-Chromotids now considered chromosomes
-chromosomes move to opposite poles of cell
Telophase
-spindle fibres dissolve
-chromosomes decondence (no longer visible on light microscope)
-nuclear membrane reforms around each set of chromosomes
Describe cytokinesis in animal cells
‘Cleavage furrow’ forms and separates cell
Cytokinesis in plant cell
‘Cell plate’ forms and lays ground work for new cell wall to form, dividing cell
What is a centromere
Where two chromatids are joint
What is a centrosome
Organelle which forms sounds spindal fibres
