• The final stage that of the aging family, lasts until the death of one of the partners. The couple must adjust to becoming older and facing death.
Adjusting to retirement; coping with death/loss of spouse and living alone / Dealing with disabilities and death of parents (grandparents)
- Couples might become isolated during this stage as friends die or as they are forced by ill health to move to nursing homes or hospitals.
- This stage is even more difficult if the couple suffers from inadequate financial resources.
