Stage 29 Flashcards
What is a spin?
An aggravated stall with yaw, roll and auto rotation
What must be present for a spin to occur?
A stall, and a side slip or yaw acting on the plane
When is a spin most likely to occur?
Turn from base to final, engine failure on takeoff or approach, go-around with nose up trim or improper flap retracting
4 phases of a spin
- Entry- forces are applied
- Incipient- 1st 2 turns while forces not in equilibrium
- Fully Developed- Equilibrium
- Recovery- Apply corrective forces
Can you adjust flaps after 200’ AGL?
No…flaps set approach stabilized
Eligibility requirements to be a private pilot?
- 17 years old
- understands English
- 3rd class medical
- ground and flight training endorsements
- pass knowledge and practical tests
How long is your temporary private certificate good for?
120 days
What is an airworthiness certificate?
FAA document granting authorization an aircraft in flight
What is a BFR and what does it consist of?
Biennial flight review, 1 hour flight 1 hour ground
What is a special flight permit and how do you get one?
Clearance to fly an otherwise un airworthy aircraft. FSDO
What happens if a section of the MEL is missing?
Must us 91.213
How often are new AFDs published?
56 days
What is variation?
Angle between true north and magnetic north
What is magnetic deviation?
Magnetic influences cause the needle to deflect from normal reading
Navigation systems used for XC
Pilotage, dead reckoning, and radio
What is the service volume of a VOR?
Tells you how high and far the VOR covers
How can you determine OBS heading?
Turn/press OBS knob to line up with course, and that is your OBS heading
How many satellites are needed for accurate navigation?
3-5, 5 for RAIM
How does a VOR work?
Projects radials from the station
When does an airplane stall?
When the critical AOA is exceeded
What is ADS-B?
Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast. Satellite based surveillance using GPS to determine a/c location and speed
What is Mode C veil?
A 30nm ring usually around class B, must have a mode c transponder to enter
Where are the VOR antennas?
On the tail! V shape!
Where are ADS-B antennas?
On top and bottom of empennage
Special VFR requirements?
1sm, clear of clouds, instrument rating
What is the max airspeed allowed in class B?
250 knots
What are the general dimensions of class C airspace?
Surface to 1,200’ (5nm), 1,200’-4,000’ shelf (10nm)
What is the difference between a spin and a spiral?
A spin occurs when the aircraft is stalled. In a spiral, the aircraft is not stalled…horizontal component of lift is extremely high and vertical component of lift is diminished.
Can we use 100 fuel in place of 100LL in the C172? What color is 100?
Yes, is it green!
Is the C172 engine normally aspirated?
Yes, as opposed to turbocharged.
How long must you wait to fly after scuba diving?
24 hours
