When the Roman soldiers moved on from Fishbourne they left behind a few things. What were they?
A few buildings, some roads and a harbour.

- Roads were resurfaced

What do historians think the purpose of the palace at a Fish bourne was?
They believe this could have been a residence for Cogidubnus on the outskirts of his new capital town
In AD75 the building substantially changed. How?
A vast area was cleared and levelled and the villa and baths became part of the SE corner of a huge new building.

Where did the construction and manufacturing take place for the palace?
In the palace itself where the builders lived and worked for many years.
What did the archaeologists find of the floor if the area used by the stonemasons?
Fragments of marble and coloured stone which had been imported from Italy and other parts of the world.

Signs of iron working such as door hinges and handles and bolts.
What were the floors of the palace at Fishbourne like?
Very fashionable floors covered in elegant black and white mosaic with geometric patterns.
What were the palace gardens like?
Like the palace, the garden was planned, laid out and decorated in the most fashionable Italian style.

Lawns, flowers, box hedges, climbing plants, lots of roses, small statues.
