What is human resource management
Human resource management is the effective management of the formal relationship between the employer and the employees
-Involves recruitment, selection, training, development, dismissal of staff in the business
What is the employment cycle?
Covers all stages in the process of employing staff from initial planning through recruitment, selection, induction, performance ,management, and eventual termination of employment
- Four main phases = Attract, develop, maintain, terminate
What is #1 Attract ?
The “Attract” principle in HR focuses on drawing talent to an organisation through strong employer branding, targeted job marketing, and a positive candidate experience. It includes sourcing talent from diverse channels and promoting diversity and inclusion to build a broad, qualified candidate pool.
What is #2 Develop?
“Develop” in HR involves nurturing employee growth through training, career development, and performance management. It focuses on enhancing skills, providing learning opportunities, and creating pathways for career advancement to ensure employees reach their full potential and contribute effectively to the organization.
What is #3 Maintain?
The “Maintain” principle in HR is about retaining employees and keeping them engaged. It involves fostering a positive work environment, offering competitive compensation and benefits, ensuring work-life balance, and addressing employee concerns. The goal is to maintain high morale, reduce turnover, and build a stable, committed workforce.
What is a #4 Terminate?
The “Terminate” principle in HR addresses the process of ending employment. This involves handling resignations, layoffs, and dismissals professionally and legally. It includes clear communication, proper documentation, compliance with employment laws, and providing support like severance or outplacement services to ensure a respectful transition for departing employees.
What are 4 ways of termination
Terminated - only for gross misconduct
Resigned - employee got a new job elsewhere
Retired - employee is leaving the labour force
Redundant - business can no longer provide the employee with a position
