Stability and Movement: Trunk and Lumbo-Pelvic Hip Complex Flashcards
1
Q
What is the myofascial core?
A
- Composed of several deep muscle bellies and their surrounding fascial components
- They will be the set of essential structures that will serve to protect, stabilize and activate the center of your moving body
- Made up of the pelvic diaphragm, respiratory diaphragm, multifidus, transverse abdominis, and the internal and external obliques
- The barrel-shaped core will maintain integrity of the viscera and serve as a stabilizing girdle during breathing and physical exertion but also serve to start most movements of the extremities
2
Q
What is the pelvic diaphragm?
A
- The several layers of myofascial material across the bottom of the pelvis
- These pelvic floor muscles are important for respiration, defecation and childbirth
3
Q
What is the respiratory diaphragm?
A
- Another horizontal expanse of myofascial tissue along the bottom edge of the rib cage and anterior surface of the lumbar vertebrae
4
Q
What is the multifidus?
A
- Along the posterior surface of the lumbar spine
- Vertical lashing of multifidi
- Hoist the spinal column up and bind the vertebrae together
5
Q
What are the transverse abdominis?
A
- 2 sheets of muscle found around the tummy and attach to the abdominal fascia in front of the linea alba
6
Q
What are the internal and external obliques?
A
- Transverse abdominis and these layers of fascial fabric stitch themselves posteriorly into the thoracolumbar fascia at the vertebrae
7
Q
What are postural supporters?
A
- String of muscular bellies that directly affect the vertical integrity of the body
- Dozens of muscle from head to toes that multitask by not supporting upright posture, but also stabilizing the weight bearing joints
- Transverse abdominis and lower multifidi are also postural supporters because they hold the body together as well as up
8
Q
What are the muscles that move the head?
A
- Anterior: rectus capitis anterior, longus capitis
- Posterior: longissimus capitis, obliquus capitis superior, obliquus capitis inferior, rectus capitis posterior (major and minor), trapezius (superior fibers), splenius capitis, semispinalis capitis
- Lateral: rectus capitis lateralis, sternocleidomastoid
9
Q
What are the muscles of the vertebral column?
A
- Superficial: erector spinae, spinalis, longissimus, iliocostalis, splenius cervicis, quadratus lumborum
- Deep: longus colli, interspinales, inter transversales, multifidus, psoas minor, rotatores, semispinalis, psoas major and minor
10
Q
What are the muscles of the thorax?
A
- Diaphragm, intercostals (external and internal), levator costarum, subcostales, scalenes (anterior, medius posterior), serratus posterior (superior and inferior), transversus thoracis
11
Q
What are the muscles of the abdominal wall?
A
- Rectus abdominis, external oblique, internal oblique, transverse abdominis
