Describe “srotas”
Spaces where substances are transported or exchanged. They may be very gross, very subtle or small, of varying shape and the invisible communication channel of intelligence between cells. All the vessels, hollow spaces, tubular structures and all the extra intracellular spaces are srotas.
List the 13 Srotas
Three Srotas for Input: Anna vaha (food), Udaka vaha (water), Prana vaha (breath/air)
Three Srotas for Output: Purisha vaha (feces), Mutra vaha (urine), Sveda vaha (sweat)
Seven srotas for the Dhatus: Rasa vaha, rakta vaha, mamsa vaha, meda vaha, asthi vaha, majja vaha, shukra vaha
Anna vaha srota
GI Tract - channels transporting solid and liquid foods
Udaka vaha srota
Lymphatic system - channels transporting water
Prana vaha srota
Respiratory system - channels carrying prana/ breath
Purisha vaha srota
Excretory system / colon - channels that carry feces
Mutra vaha srota
Urinary system / kidneys and bladder - channels that carry urine
Sveda vaha srota
Pores - channels that carry perspiration/sweat
Rasa vaha srota
Heart - channels moving plasma & lymph
Rakta vaha srota
Liver & spleen - channels transporting blood cells and specifically hemoglobin
Mamsa vaha srota
Muscle/ tendons - channels transporting muscle nutrients and wastes
Meda vaha srota
Greater omentum - channels supplying various adipose tissues/fat of the body
Asthi vaha srota
Femur - channels that transport nutrients to the bones and wastes out of them
Majja vaha srota
Asti (bone) / greatest bones are the femur and pelvic basket - channels supplying the bone marrow and nerves, including the brain
Shukra vaha srota
Testes and urethra, ovaries and sperm - channels carrying the sperm and ova and supplying their nutrients
