What is a closed skill?
A skill where the environment is stable (e.g. penalty kick).
What is a open skill?
A skill where the environment isn’t stable (e.g. making a tackle).
What is a simple skill?
A skill that is easy for an athlete and doesn’t require much concentration.
What is a complex skill?
A skill that is difficult for an athlete and requires their full concentration.
What is a low organisation skill?
A skill that has clearly defined, simple parts (e.g. chest pass in netball).
What is a high organisation skill?
A skill that has lots of sections that are hard to separate (e.g. backflip).
What is massed practice?
Practice where the skill is practiced until it’s learned (for more experienced athletes).
What is distributed practice?
Practice where the skill is practiced over several sessions or including rests (for less experienced athletes).
What is fixed practice?
Practice where the skill is practiced over and over until perfection.
What is variable practice?
Practice where the skill is done in a variety of different situations.
What is visual guidance?
Guidance where you’re shown how to do it.
What is verbal guidance?
Guidance where you’re told how to do something.
What is manual guidance?
Guidance where the coach physically moves the athlete in order to correct the movement.
What is mechanical guidance?
Guidance where a machine is used to correct the athlete’s movement.
What is intrinsic feedback?
Feedback given by the athlete to themself.
