Sports Injuries and Prevention Flashcards
What are acute injuries?
happen suddenly, such as when a person falls, receives a blow, or twists a joint,
what are chornic injuries
develop from long-term repetitive motion in sports like long-distance running, cycling and swimming
what are overuse injuries
sports-related microtraumas that result from repetitively using the same parts of the body, usually by overtraining
what are direct injuries
A direct injury is caused by an external blow or force.
what are indirect injuries
The injury does not result from physical contact with an object or person, but from internal forces built up by the actions of the performer
(stretching)
What is SALTAPS
See (the injured),
ask (if they r ok),
look(at the injury),
touch(the injury to identify pain),
active(pain that is caused upon contact),
passive(pain that is there without contact),
strength(of the limb to test the muscle)
what are the 4 main methods of injury prevention?
Pre-participation screening, physical preparation of athletes, warm-up, cool-Down muscles to prevent strain/injury
Sports injury recovery methods are?
Immobilization with a cast, splint, sling, walking boot or other medical device. Injections to reduce swelling and pain and lots of resting of the injured muscle/s.
