Motivation definition
Our drive to learn and be successful
Intrinsic motivation
Inner drive to participate and be successful. Desire to take part for fun/ pride etc.
Extrinsic motivation
Drive to succeed for rewards, medals, status, praise or recognition
Positives of intrinsic motivation
-Can be more valuable
-can be more long term
-more self sufficient
Negatives of intrinsic motivation
-may not be enough to maintain motivation
-cognitive learner may find it difficult/not enjoyable
Positives of extrinsic motivation
-more of a significant impact
-improve confidence
-effective for children
Negatives of extrinsic motivation
-motivation can decline when removed

-may not lead to long term participation
