What is an acute injury?
Happens while doing a physical activity such as sprains, strains, or fractures
List symptoms of an acute injury
- Swelling
- Sudden severe pain
- Inability to move a joint in its full range
- Extreme weakness of the body part
What is a chronic injury?
Results from overusing a body part while exercising or playing a sport
List symptoms of a chronic injury
- Extreme pain when executing an activity
- Dull ache when at rest
What is the Good Samaritan Law?
All individuals are liable to give emergency aid to victims, for it is a moral obligation
Define first aid
An initial care for an illness or injury that can be performed by experts or non-experts
What does it mean to be gentle in first aid?
A caring touch lessens pain
Why is being observant important in first aid?
Accidents should be inspected thoroughly
What does it mean to be resourceful in first aid?
Creativity to produce materials should be demonstrated by the first aider

False promises should not be given
What does it mean to be sympathetic in first aid?
The feeling of being comfortable and cared for should be given to the victim

A condition of a muscle that contracts involuntarily
What happens if a spasm is forceful and sustained?
It becomes a cramp
Define sprain
A stretch or a tear of a ligament
What is the RICE method in first aid?
- Rest: Do not put any weight on the injured area
- Ice: Apply a cold pack immediately to the injured area
- Compression: Helps immobilize and protect the joint
- Elevation: Injured area should be above the level of the heart
What is heat exhaustion?
Begins from heat cramps and can lead to a life-threatening condition, which is heat stroke

Specializes in the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries
What is the role of a physical therapist?
Develops a rehabilitation program
