What was life like in pre-industrial Britain?
The Four C’s
CRUEL-poor class treated cruelly while upper class lived in luxury
COUNTRYSIDE- people lived in rural areas. There was limited time for sport due to the agricultural calendar
CLEAR CLASS DIVISION- existed based on a two tier feudal system in which the lower class worked for the land of the upper class.
COMMUNICATIONS- were limited as well as transport

How did popular recreations reflect society?
Sport was localised- limited transport
Simple rules/limited organisation- illiterate/uneducated
Sports were very violent- harsh society
Activities were limited and occasional- long working hours/ agricultural calendar
Pre industrial- rural/ natural/ simple
Two tier society- gentry clearly separated from peasant activities
What were the characteristics of mob football
Aggressive
Not many rules (the lower class were uneducated)
Male dominated
Localised
Natural resources as equipment- pigs bladder as a football
