Psychology Flashcards
Name the three theories that explain the reasoning behind someone’s personality
The trait theory, the social learning theory, the interactionist perspective
Name the 3 features of the personality according to the Hollander approach
Core of the performer-strong values and beliefs, hard to alter
typical responses- inherent traits displayed to specific situations
Role related behaviour- performer adapting to a specific role when the situation demands.
What is a trait
Innate characteristics we are born with. They are stable and consistent.
What is vicarious learning
Observational Learning, learning by watching someone else do it and be rewarded
What is the equation for the interactionist perspective
B=f(PxE)
Behaviour is a function of the personality and the environment
What are the advantages and disadvantages of a questionnaire?
ADVANTAGES- efficient, quick, lots of information
DISADVANTAGES- biased answers, can misunderstand questions.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of an observation?
ADVANTAGES- true to life, during real game
DISADVANTAGES- subjective, behaviour changes when watched
What are the advantages and disadvantages of an interview?
ADVANTAGES- more depth, specific
DISADVANTAGES- time consuming, similar to questionnaire
When do we copy behaviour according to the social learning theory?
When it’s reinforced, when it’s successful, when it’s performed by a role model.
How can a coach use the interactionist perspective to improve performance?
1) they can predict potential aggressive behaviour so sub the player off before they get sent off
2) they can recreate situations in training so the player knows what to do in games
3) encourage the player to adapt to the circumstances
