Q

What are the similarities between aerobic and anaerobic Respiration?

A

The similarities between aerobic and anaerobic Respiration are that they both aim to produce energy (ATP) for the cell. Both processes begin Glycolysis and both processes involve enzymes.

Q

What are the differences between aerobic and anaerobic Respiration?

A

The differences between aerobic and anaerobic Respiration are that aerobic respiration requires Oxygen whereas anaerobic respiration does not. They have different end products as aerobic Respiration produces Carbon Dioxide and Water and anaerobic Respiration produces Lactic Acid in animals or ethanol and Carbon Dioxide in yeast. Aerobic Respiration is more efficient in generating ATP compared to anaerobic respiration. Aerobic Respiration takes place in the Mitochondria whereas anaerobic Respiration takes place in the Cytoplasm. Aerobic respiration can continue as long as Oxygen is available whereas anaerobic respiration occurs in the absence of oxygen typically for short periods of time.

Q

Explain the importance of Oxygen Debt?

A

The importance of Oxygen Debt is vital as lactic acid is toxic and a build up in our cells and muscles can lead to harmful effects if not converted to Carbon Dioxide and Water quickly enough. We repay Oxygen Debt by panting after hard exercises as panting provides Oxygen to help break down Lactic Acid.

Q

What are the different parts of the heart?

A

The top two chambers of the heart are called the Atria and the bottom two chambers of the heart are called the ventricles. Blood on the right hand side of the heart is deoxygenated and blood on the left hand side of the heart is oxygenated.
