Acquired throuch skin pricks of thorns, barbs, wood slivers

What are the clinical clues for sporotrichosis?

A

Sporotrichosis
* 1 week to 3 months after injury nodules begin forming
* Begins as painless nodule
* Lymphatics draining area form a series of firm nodules
* Nodules soften and ulcerate or form pustules
* Most often on the hand

How is sporotrichosis diagnosed?

A
  • Culture of affected tissue is standard
  • Fungal stains of biopsied tissues are difficult as there are not many fungal cells
