Split brain research Flashcards
1
Q
who conducted split brain research
A
Sperry
2
Q
what year was the research conducted
A
1968
3
Q
what was the procedure
A
- 11 participants selected who had a split brain operation previously
- image projected to RVF and same/diff image to LVF
- in normal brains the image would be shared between hemispheres but this cant happen in a split brain patient
4
Q
what were the findings
A
- when image shown to RVF they could describe it but if it was shown to LVF they said nothing was there
- could select matching objects when shown in LVF despite not being able to describe what they saw in the image. Used their left hand bc its linked to RH. Also had an emotional reaction to it
5
Q
what does the findings suggest
A
certain functions in the brain are lateralised
