Spirometry Flashcards
1
Q
What is the difference between obstructive and restrictive lung disease?
A
- Obstructive - increase in resistance to airflow due to partial or complete airway obstruction at any level.
- Restrictive - reduced expansion of the lung parenchyma and decrease total lung capacity.
2
Q
What are the normal results for FEV1, FVC, and FEV1/FVC ratio in spirometry?
A
- FEV1 - >80% predicted
- FVC - >80% predicted
- FEV1/FVC - 75-80%
3
Q
What would the results be for FEV1, FVC, and FEV1/FVC ratio in spirometry in a restrictive lung condition?
A
- FEV1 - <80% predicted
- FVC - <80% predicted
- FEV1/FVC - >70% predicted
4
Q
What would the results be for FEV1, FVC, and FEV1/FVC ratio in spirometry in an obstructive lung condition?
A
- FEV1 - <80% predicted
- FVC - normal/low
- FEV1/FVC - <70% predicted
