- Upper airway obstruction
- Lower airway disease
- Parenchymal lung disease
- Other resp causes - pneumothorax, pleural effusion, PE, acute chest wall injury
- Cardiac causes - acute pulmonary oedema, ACS, tamponade, arrhythmias, acute valvular heart disease
- Other - metabolic acidosis, anxiety/panic attack
