Spine Rehabilitation Revision Flashcards

1
Q

What are the rehabilitation approaches?

A

Movement impairment classification

  • restore normal movement and relax the muscle system
  • graduated pain free exposure to normal patterns of movement assisted breathing/relaxation techniques
  • manual therapy

Control Impairment classification

  • problem manifests during dynamic and or static tasks
  • desensitise the nervous system-
  • educate the patient to control their pain provoking postures and movement patterns

Q

How to approach spine rehabilitation

A
  • Pain management
  • Target immobility ➡️ identify stiff area and get it moving, can use:
▶️ mobilisation, manipulation, trigger point release, soft tissue release and exercises
  • Target stability ➡️ based on loss of muscle activity and balance rather than bony/ligamentous structure
▶️ exercises: - multifidus controls lordosis and must be rehabilitated: lateral lumbar flexion, rotation, leg raises
  • erector spinae endurance
  • abdominal stabilisers, (internal oblique, transverse abdominis)
