Spine Rehabilitation Revision Flashcards
1
Q
What are the rehabilitation approaches?
A
Movement impairment classification
- restore normal movement and relax the muscle system
- graduated pain free exposure to normal patterns of movement assisted breathing/relaxation techniques
- manual therapy
Control Impairment classification
- problem manifests during dynamic and or static tasks
- desensitise the nervous system-
- educate the patient to control their pain provoking postures and movement patterns
2
Q
How to approach spine rehabilitation
A
- Pain management
- Target immobility ➡️ identify stiff area and get it moving, can use:
▶️ mobilisation, manipulation, trigger point release, soft tissue release and exercises - Target stability ➡️ based on loss of muscle activity and balance rather than bony/ligamentous structure
▶️ exercises: - multifidus controls lordosis and must be rehabilitated: lateral lumbar flexion, rotation, leg raises - erector spinae endurance
- abdominal stabilisers, (internal oblique, transverse abdominis)
