What is a cavoid foot?
A high arch, high in-step, rigid foot
Can cause:
- tight calves and hamstrings
- hammer toes
How can you rehabilitate:
- cushioned shoes and orthotics
What is forefoot equinus?
The forefoot is pointed
With more anterior tilt
What is Mortons Neuroma?
- a painful lump between 3rd and 4th metatarsal
- tingling, pinching, pins and needles
- squeeze test
- worse with shoes
- can be red and swollen
- treatment = cortisone injections
What are getting symptoms of Plantar Fascitis?
Morning pain - cold, warms up in the shower
Rising from non- weight bearing to weight bearing
Rest relieves pain but increases stiffness
Calf stretches
What are the possible differential diagnoses of plantar fasciitis?
Heel bursa
Stress fracture
Heel contusion
What can cause plantar fasciitis?
Change in activity level
Weight gain
Flip flops
Weak glutes and tight calves
How can you treat plantar fasciitis?
Calf stretches Massage and soft tissue release Night splinting ESWT cortisone injections
What to look for when assessing the feet?
- physical shape of the foot
- forefoot positions
- skin lesions (blisters and calluses)
- bony lesions (os naviculare and talus)
- structural deformities (bunions)
- anatomical abnormalities (true Mortons foot)
- variances in gait
- footwear
