Spinal Stenosis and Claudication Flashcards
1
Q
describe how this occurs
A
nerve roots can have reduced space by being compressed by osteophytes and hypertrophied ligaments in OA
2
Q
presentation
A
radiculopathy or burning leg pain on walking (neurogenic claudication)
over 60
claudication distance is inconsistent and less uphill (flexion creates more space)
pedal pulses are preserved
3
Q
diagnosis
A
myelopathy
MRI
4
Q
management
A
conservative e.g. physiotherapy, weight loss
some benefit from surgical decompression with trimming of osteophytes
