Spinal mechanics- cervical spine Flashcards

1
Q

Segmental movement

A

Overall, the Cspp has the greatest range of movement, across the whole spine

OA joint, is all about flexion/extension

C1, C2 is all about rotation (dens is used as a pivot)

C3, C4 has the greatest ROM for the whole cervical spine

Q

Roll, spin and glide concept available in the cervical spine

A

Occipital Atlanto (relies on the concave, convex complex)

– concave bone- atlas facet slides (passive)
– convex bone- occipital facet rolls (active)

so in the case of extension of the head, the occiput will roll posteriorly and the atlas will slide anteriorly

Q

The reasons RA can be a problem in the cervical spine

A

Inflammation an cause the ligaments (transverse) to be weakened, if this ligament is weakened, to can rupture causing the dens to ride up into the spinal cord causing paralysis.
