Spinal Mechanics Flashcards
What is Fryette’s first principle?
When the thoracic and lumbar spine is in neutral position, the coupled motions of side-bending and rotation for a group of vertebrae are in opposite directions
What is Fryette’s second principle?
When the thoracic and lumbar spine is flexed/extended, the coupled motions of side-bending and rotation for a single vertebra occur in the same direction
Which way does rotation occur in Fryette’s two principles?
1 - toward the convexity
2 - toward the concavity
What spinal segments does Fryette’s 1st principle apply to?
T1-L5 and the OA joint
Why is the OA joint considered modified type I mechanics?
You may find a flexion or extension component to it
What are the spinal segments for Fryette’s 2nd principle?
C2-L5
Who added a 3rd principle that indicates that motions of the vertebral segments are coupled together?
Nelson
