What is damaged in poliomyelitis?
Anterior motor horn. (LOWER MOTOR NEURONS)
Symptoms of poliomyelitis?
Asymetric weakness, hypotonia, flaccidic paralysis, fasciculations, hyporeflexia, muscle atrophy. Respiratory muscle involvement –> resp. failure.
CSF Labs. in poliomyelitis?
CSF: incr. WBC (lymphocytic pleocytosis) and slightly increased proteins. NO CHANGE IN GLUCOSE.
