Spinal Cord and Nerves Flashcards

1
Q

Where is White and Gray matter found within the spinal cord?

A
Gray body (cell body, dendrites and unmyelinated axons) found inside the 'Butterfly'.
Myelinated axons, white matter, are outside the butterfly.

Q

Gray matter Horns

A

Anterior horn (don’t extend as close to exterior of the cord, left and right), posterior (on back of cord- left and right, extends closer to surface of cord, and lateral porn (left and right, small, lay in between the posterior and anterior horns).

Q

How is the spinal cord divided?

A

Anterior median Fissure (separates the right side from left including the anterior finicula)
Posterior median sulcus- separates the posterior finicula

Q

What are the spinal roots?

A

They are the anterior (ventral) and posterior (dorsal)parts of the spinal nerve before it conjoins to form the spinal nerve

Q

What is the bulge in the posterior root?

A

before the posterior root join with the anterior, it houses the cell body called the dorsal root ganglion, its only on the posterior root.

Q

What happens as the spinal nerve travels away from spine?

A

It divides posteriorly and anteriorly.
The parts that divide off the nerve are called the ramus. The smaller division (travels posteriorly) and the bigger one is the anterior ramus.

Q

What is the Ganglion Sympathetic Chain?

A

It travels perpindicular to the spinal nerve and combines with the anterior ramus (via the rami communicanties(or sympathetic rami))
