spinal chord lesions Flashcards
Parietal Lobe sign
cortical sensory loss (association areas)
Contralateral with all modalities affected, face, hands, feet more pronounced, may include motor signs and hemianopsia
thalamic
loss of sensation and motor below lesion
transverse cord
loss of pain and temp contralateral below lesion, loss of vibration and motor ipsilateral below lesion
Hemisection aka brown sequard syndrome
loss of pain only at level of lesion suspended sensory loss, small lesion in central commissure, “Classic cape distribution and spares face and genitals”
Central cord lesion
tabes dorsalis-losso f sensation due to tertiary syphilis resulting in steppage gait, affects dorsal column sensations and loss of sensory everywhere except FACE
Posterior cord lesion
loss of pain+motor Bilaterally (everywhere except genitals)
Anterior cord lesion
caused by trauma, tumors, MS, transverse myelitis
Transverse cord
caused by penetrating trauma (knife wound)
Hemisection aka Brown Sequard Syndrome
Caused by Syringomyelia (repetitive neck trauma), contusion, cord tumor
Central cord
Caused by trauma, MS, posterior tumor, B12 or iron deficiency
Posterior cord
Anterior spinal artery compression, MS
Anterior cord
