Spinal Chord cross sections Flashcards
what is the outer section of the spinal chord formed of?
white matter consisting of axons that form the ascending and descending pathways
ascending pathways =
travel from the Body to the brain - carrying sensory information
descending pathways =
track from the brain to the body - carrying motor instructions
what is the inner section of the spinal chord formed of?
grey matter
where do nerves from the body enter?
through dorsal roots (dorsal horn)
where do nerves exit the spinal chord?
through the ventral root (ventral horn)
what is a useful landmark for the anterior surface of the spinal chord?
a deep groove called the ventral median fissure
what are the two main divisions of the PNS?
autonomic and somatic
