a fibrocartilaginous joint between the two adjacent vertebrae to allow slight movement to act as shock absorbers
what does the disc contain?
annulus fibrosus, nucleus pulposus and a layer of hyaline cartilage

outer fibrous ring made up of lamiae of fibrocartilage
nucleus pulposus =
gel like centre that helps distribute pressure evenly
