What are mixtures?
Two or more pure substances put together.
What is a solution?
A solution is a mixture where one type of substance (it’s particles) are spread evenly throughout another substance and cannot be seen.
What is a substance?
A substance is matter which has a specific composition and specific properties.
What are suspensions?
Suspensions are mixtures consisting of a solid in a liquid. The particles of solid are so large that they can be seen in the water (because they have not dissolved).
What are colloids ?
- A colloid is a mixture formed when particles of one substance spread evenly throughout another, but appear to be a single substance.
What is an aerosol?
- A substance that comes out as a spray.
What are sols?
a fluid suspension of a colloidal solid in a liquid.
a suspension and a colloid together / evenly spread particles but if you leave it for a while, it starts to separate / cannot see through it / colloid
What are gels?
a jelly-like substance, especially one used in cosmetic or medicinal products.
a liquid turned into a solid / a colloid / semisolid /
What is a solute?
A solute is the substance that is to be dissolved.
What is a solvent?
A solvent is a substance that dissolves another substance.
What does soluble mean?
You can dissolve a substance, especially in water.
What does insoluble mean?
You cannot dissolve a substance
What is a concentrated solution?
Concentrated solution is a solution that contains a large amount of solute relative to the amount that could dissolve.
What is a saturated solution?
A solution in which the maximum amount of solvent has been dissolved.
What is an emulsion?
a fine dispersion of minute droplets of one liquid in another in which it is not soluble or miscible.
