Speed, Pressure, Motion Flashcards
What is the equation for Speed, Distance, Time?
Speed (m/s) = Distance (m) / Time (s)
What is relative speed?
The speed at which two objects are moving towards/away
Combine speed at opposite direction
Same direction subtract speeds
What does pressure depend on?
Force and Area
What is the equation for Pressure?
Pressure (N/m²) = Force (N) / Area (m²
What is gas pressure?
Gas pressure is when particles collide with the walls of the container exerting a force
How can you change gas pressure?
By:
- Changing the volume
- Changing the number of particles
- Changing the temperature
What happens if you go higher in the atmosphere?
The gas pressure decreases as the number of particles decreases with altitude, meaning less particles are exerting force.
Why does liquid pressure increase with depth?
Because as you go deeper more particles exert force on you increasing the pressure
What is a moment and what is its equation?
The turning effect of a force
Moment (NM) = Force (N) × distance from pivot (m)
What is a pivot?
the point which you are turning around
What is the law of moments?
The law of moments state that when an object is in equilibrium the sum of clockwise moments = the sum of anti clockwise moments
What is density and its equation?
The amount of mass there is in a certain volume
Density (g/cm³) = Mass (g) / Volume (cm³)
What is the density of water?
1gm/cm³
