Speed and Distance - time graphs Flashcards
What is the equation for constant speed?
speed = distance travelled / time taken
What is velocity?
a speed in a given direction becuase it is a vector, when it changes we say there is an acceleration
What is acceleration?
a change in velocity
what is the equation for acceleration?
acceleration = change in velocity / time taken for the changes
acceleration (graph) = rise / run
What is the equation for speed?
speed = distance / time
Information for distance time graphs
- constant speed - straight line
- stationary - horizontal
- slower constant speed - shallower gradient
- decelerating - gradient starts at steep and gets shallower
What is Newtons Seccond Law?
A force is directly proportional to acceleration
What does the gradient provide us with?
It provides us with the internal mass the force provided divided by the acceleration in generator
What is interia?
An objects resistance to motion
What is Newtons Third Law?
Every action has an equal and opposite reaction
What is Newtons First Law?
If a resultant force acts on an object it will accelerate
What is the equation for momentum?
p = m x v
momentum = mass x velocity
